Report: Cesspools Polluting Long Island Waterways - An environmental group said cesspools in Long Island's Suffolk County were releasing high levels of nitrogen into the area's waterways. A report by Peconic Baykeeper said the nitrogen was harming fish life and causing algae blooms and invasive weeds. The vicious snarling on Tuesday wasn't coming from the dogs lined up around the block; rather it was from their owners who were furious over a weeks-old law banning pit bulls and Rottweilers in the village of Rockville Center. The law hit the books on June 8 and bans anyone living in the village from owning the two breeds.
